The National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease

We are proud to announce that the U.S Health and Human Services has for the first time ever declared a National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease! Because of everyone who voted on alz.org, signed their names on petitions to State Representative's and because of the 500+ advocates who went to DC earlier this year the US Government has officially declared that they are "committed to making this strategy a living, breathing action plan that will help us meet our goal to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer's by 2025.

We are excited about this huge step towards fighting this awful disease, but much research and dedication the the cause is still necessary. For more information and to see how you can make a difference, visit www.alz.org

Dogs are a Man's Best Friend :)

We had our final visit from the Therapy Dogs until September and what a joy they bring to Gowin Parc!

The sweet dogs bring such a smile to everyone's faces we only found it fitting to go along and buy another dog for our own house A here at GP :)

We adopted a miniature schnauzer from Coles County Animal Shelter and she will be ready for pickup this Friday! Implementing pet therapy is very important to us and we are so excited to have a new addition to the family.

Mother's Day Cookout & More!

We had such a great time at our Mother's Day Cookout! We are so thankful for everyone who came to celebrate with us :)

The weather provided a perfect atmosphere for everyone to eat on the patio as well as the gazebo! All the moms here at Gowin Parc were also gifted a rose during the evening in thanks for all they have done for their children :)

Today we had beautiful weather once again and took full advantage! We took about 15 friends to McDonalds to cool off with ice cream cones then headed to Peterson Park in Mattoon to enjoy the beautiful day :)

It is always a blast to experience all that Mattoon & Charleston have to offer.

A Letter From a Mother to a Daughter

Letter from a Mother to a Daughter:

"My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting ...old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”... Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a girl? When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way... remember, honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day... the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If I occasionally lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you. And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked. When those days come, don’t feel sad... just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love. I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you... my darling daughter. "

Happy Mother’s Day!

Birthdays & Animal Shelter Visit!

Today was a fun and eventful day on so many levels! We celebrated 2 birthdays and the parties were fabulous! Avanelle from house C celebrated her 93rd birthday and Evelyn from house D celebrated her 88th!

Our lovely chef Ellen made vanilla cake with chocolate icing at Evelyn's request :)

Pictured above is Evelyn :)

After the birthday celebrations a group of about 8 neighbors from houses A & B went to the local animal shelter to play with puppies and kittens!

We had such a great time we may be rescuing a nice dog for house A/B :D

Just Another Marvelous Monday

Today we took a bus load of boxes as well as neighbors over to the Mattoon Recycling dumpsters to continue our "going green" campaign!

After the "heavy" lifting we decided to have some time to chill at the local Wendy's with a good Frosty in hand :)
Pictured above is Naomi & Bev enjoying their treat :)

Lester & Genevieve enjoyed theirs so much they couldn't stop to smile for the camera ;)

And Lynette & Janice had a few good laughs during our trip like always :)
